Understanding the Features

🎯 Hard Mode Word

Suggests words from the remaining valid candidates that satisfy all your previous feedback constraints. These words will always be valid guesses that match everything you've learned so far.

🔤 Soft Mode Word

Suggests words that use letters you haven't tried yet (or letters known to be present but in wrong positions). This helps you explore new letter combinations and gather more information. Soft mode words:

⚡ Power Word

Finds the soft word with the highest power score. The power score (0-100%) indicates how effective a word is at eliminating possibilities, even in worst-case scenarios. Higher power = better word choice.

Note: For the first attempt, Power Word defaults to "SALET" (a known optimal starting word) to save calculation time.

📊 Power Score

Each suggested word displays a Power score. This shows the minimum percentage of words that would be eliminated even if you get the worst possible feedback. A higher power score means the word is more effective at narrowing down possibilities.

🔍 Dictionary Lookup

Hover over any suggested word (the underlined text below the letter tiles) to see its definition in a tooltip.

Click on any suggested word to open it in Merriam-Webster dictionary in a new tab.

Tips & Best Practices

💡 Tip 1: Start with Power Word

For your first guess, always use "Power word" to get the optimal starting word (SALET). This word is specifically chosen for its high elimination power.

💡 Tip 2: Use Hard Mode for Narrowing Down

Once you have some feedback, "Hard mode word" is great for finding words that match all your constraints and help you zero in on the answer.

💡 Tip 3: Use Soft Mode to Explore

If you're stuck or want to try different letter combinations, "Soft mode word" helps you explore new letters while respecting what you already know.

💡 Tip 4: Check Word Meanings

Hover over words to see their definitions. This helps ensure you're guessing valid English words and can help you understand the suggestions better.

💡 Tip 5: Watch the Remaining Count

The "Remaining words" counter shows how many valid candidates are left. As it gets smaller, you're getting closer to the answer!
